2017 Hawaiian Lodge Scholarship Winners
Hawaiian Lodge Will Award $15,000 in College Scholarships At July 26 Dinner
The Scholarship Committee announced the selection of ten college students to receive a Hawaiian Lodge scholarship in 2017. “This was a very special year,” said Bob Schultz, PM, chairman of the committee. “We had a high proportion of qualified applicants from our family of Freemasons.” Stipends of $1,500 each will be presented at a dinner on July 26, at Makiki Temple to the following students.
Katie Gordon, a graduate of Island Pacific Academy, will study biology at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She is the daughter of Bro. Lee Gordon, of our lodge. Franchesca Ponce, who graduated from Damien High, will be a biology major at Saint Martin University in Lacey, Washington. She is the granddaughter of WB Bernard Baldueza. Sydney Maarat, a graduate of Campbell High, will study biology at UCLA in Los Angeles. She is a Rainbow Girl and the daughter of Bro. Clyde Maarat of Leeward Lodge.
Denise Torres, of Baldwin High on Maui, will study biology at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She is the daughter of Bro. Richard Torres of Lodge Maui. Jack Lin, a graduate of Kauai High will be a math major at Stanford University in Stanford, California. Jenaiah Santos, from Aiea High, will be studying nursing at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
Continuing scholarships will be presented to the following students, who received their awards in prior years:
Bryceton Scurr, a junior at Whittier College in California, is the grandson of Bro. Chuck Scurr. Laica Mae Arcibal is a junior studying biology at Chaminade University in Honolulu.
Jordan Jarvis, an education major in her third year at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California.
Nicole Fernandez is a senior studying veterinary medicine at the University of California, Davis.
