May 2012

Aloha Brethren,

April was a busy month for Masons in Hawaii. For the Grand Lodge, it was when the Annual Communications (ANCOM) was held. Among the highlights in the ANCOM were the voting of proposed legislations and the election of officers of the Grand Lodge. I like to congratulate MW Antonio Ligaya for being unanimously elected as the Grand Master.

April also saw the historic rededication of the cornerstone of the Honolulu Masonic Temple. As some of us have seen, the newly renovated temple is awesome! We now look forward to going back to our Masonic abode. Thank you to all the brethren who had the vision, wisdom, and commitment to get the project completed.

We welcome our newly raised brother, Jonathan Evangelista. Let us extend to him the kind care, love and protection that every Master Mason enjoys after joining the Craft.

The proposed “twinning” relations between Hawaiian Lodge and LuzViMinda Lodge was also passed in the April stated meeting. This arrangement calls for creative ways to advance the relationship between two lodges from different jurisdictions separated by the vast Pacific waters. This challenge is now part of our future agenda.

Speaking of the future, there are many things to look forward to in the coming months. For May, we are gearing for the Keiki ID Project, in collaboration with the Grand Lodge, and the Scottish Rite class on the 5th. The former will be held at the Kapiolani Park as part of the Filipino Fiesta event, while the latter will take place in the Scottish Rite Cathedral. We also anticipate an initiation on the 9th, and a volunteer service at the Aiea Elementary School on the 19th. The month will culminate with the traditional observance of Memorial Day on the 28th.

The remaining months of the year will be likewise lively, with new initiatives and traditional programs happening.  Let us look forward to them.

I like to thank the corps of officers and lodge members for the support and energy that they bring.  Cooperation and commitment are the embodiment of any organization, including our Lodge. As we have learned, the lodge is not the physical facility; it is the brethren coming together working for an end -- not only for themselves but most especially for others. We often take pride of members of the Craft such as George Washington, Winston Churchill, Alexander Fleming, Benito Suarez, Jose Rizal, among others. These great men --Freemasons all -- are highly admired not for what they have achieved for themselves but for what they have contributed to humanity. Let us follow their steps.

May Brotherly Love prevail and every moral and social virtue cement us.

Fraternally,

Brother Raymund Liongson
Worshipful Master, Hawaiian Lodge
