September 2012
Aloha Brethren,
The “-ber” months (September, October, November and December) are upon us! They mark the last quarter of the year -- a great time to reflect on what we have done in the past three quarters, as well as a period to conceive new dreams and visions for another year.
August was ushered in by the official visit of the officers of the Grand Lodge of Hawaii at our stated meeting, coincidentally on the first day of the month. It was a delightful moment for Hawaiian Lodge to welcome the Grand Master of Hawaii, the Most Worshipful Antonio Ligaya, and other GL officers who are also members of Hawaiian Lodge.
The subsequent weeks were characterized by a series of degree conferrals. On August 8, we passed two brothers -- Andrew Holeman and Elizar Dy -- as Fellowcrafts. On the following weeks, we initiated two applicants, Mr. James Rhodes and Mr. Michael Hysell, Jr. I like to thank my corps of officers and other brothers who, from time to time, fill in for any open officers’ seats. We were able to bring our junior members and knockers to the next rung because of your participation and support.
Now that we are back in the Makiki Temple, we again enjoy the great evening meals prepared in the kitchen. I like to thank the Junior Warden, Stewards, other brothers, “knockers” -- and even relatives of brothers -- who put in so much work in preparing our meals. Please know that we truly appreciate what you do for the Lodge.
Our commitment to institutions for public education remain high. Last month, we responded to a “last minute” call for volunteers to help in the “Make a Difference Day” at Puuhale Elementary School in the Kalihi area. There we helped clean the grounds, cut the grass and hedges, pull weeds, and paint hopscotches on walkways. Indeed, helping make places of learning for children pleasant and delightful is very rewarding. I like to encourage the brethren to continue investing time and energy toward this end.
This month, we are holding the annual Past Masters’ Night. This event is one of the much awaited conferral ceremonies as it is performed by brothers who have occupied the highest position in the Lodge -- serving as Worshipful Master. This is a ceremony that I always find pleasing and educational.
The Past Masters’ Banquet on September 22 will also coincide with the celebration of a historic milestone for the Lodge -- its 160th anniversary. Let us come together, celebrate and have fun.
May brotherly love prevail and every moral and social virtue cement us.
Fraternally,
Brother Raymund Liongson
Worshipful Master, Hawaiian Lodge
